Use the Enter Batch Results screen to streamline result entry for a batch of culture workups.
A result based on common workup criteria can be quickly entered for a batch. The laboratory technologist or microbiologist can either scan the barcode of each sample or enter the Sample ID in a text box. A maximum of 26 Sample IDs can be accommodated in a batch on this screen.
The result criteria that the culture workups must have in common are:
Common culture test.
Common result observed, such as no growth for 24 or 48 or 72 hours.
Enter Live Results that are released immediately and posted to the patient record.
Or, Enter Held Results that have to be reviewed before release .
The entire batch must be Live Results or Held Results.
Preliminary results or Final results. A preliminary status is usually used until the end of the culture result process.
The entire batch must be Preliminary status or Final status.
A result mode that appends the latest results to previous results so that the full record is available in Patient Inquiry, or replaces the previous results with the latest results.
The entire batch must be Append or Overlay .
________________________________
There are configurational options that specifically relate to the function of the Live Batch screen.
A facility selects options when the CyberLAB system is implemented and if a process change requires an adjustment in function.
The options can be changed by a manager or supervisor of your facility.
Caution: A change to one option can affect other settings or operations in the application. Before a manager or supervisor changes the setting of an option, it is recommended that you consider the effect of that change. If you have any questions, contact the client support representative.
The options below are arranged by function and require a Yes or No setting.
Micro Test Status
Enable Test Dictionary Classification
(Option location: File Maintenance/General System Parameters/Features.)
Auto Micro
Note: If the Auto Micro drop-down list is set to Yes for a micro test in the Test Dictionary, the micro test is performed on an analyzer. Only one micro test with this designation can be placed on a Sample ID.
For example, if a blood culture is designated in the Test Dictionary as Yes for Auto Micro, other micro tests on the sample cannot have that designation.
(Option location: File Maintenance/Test Dictionary Maintenance/Test Maintenance/Single Test.)
Allow finalized samples in batch entry
Note: Applies only to Manual Batch Entry.
(Option location: File Maintenance/Micro Parameter Maintenance/Microbiology Default Parameters.)

____________________________________________
A test based upon the growth of microorganisms in a nutrient medium to identify the source of a medical condition.
Two options that indicate the state of the result:
Preliminary
The status of the micro test as it proceeds through the workup process. Preliminary results retain the sample as incomplete.
For example, it can take 24, 48, or 72 hours to observe if there is growth of a microorganism.
Final
The result when the micro workup process is complete, for example, between 48 and 72 hours. However, blood cultures can take between five to seven days, and fungal cultures can take months.
A code that describes no growth or growth of a specific microorganism in a nutrient medium.
Two options that indicate methods to add the result of a culture workup to a sample. These options are often used when numerous preliminary results are reported.
The two options are:
Append
Attach the result to the next available workup (isolate) number.
Overlay
Replace previous result of the culture workup with the latest result.
Two options to enter results are:
Enter Live Results
A Live result when released is available immediately and posted to the patient's record.
Enter Held Results
A Held result is retained in the result file until it can be reviewed. Until the review and release, a Held result is not available in the Patient Inquiry submodule or on clinical reports.
